Accepted!!

Yesterday I got a set of THREE emails congratulating me on the acceptance of photos entered into the “Eye of the Quilter” special exhibit for the International Quilt Festival in Houston this Fall!!  Each of the previous 3 years I have entered the maximum three photos, but only one had been accepted each year.  This a first for All Three Accepted!!  It probably helped that the theme for this year is Flora and Fauna….  Perfect for my photos from the gardens… The hardest part was to choose Just three to enter.  The first one I chose was easy… I really love this photo of a flopped Peony Gay Paree flower after a rain… it reminded me of a ballerina’s Tu Tu.

Most Peony flowers tend to look so sad after a rain shower, but these flowers with less petals didn’t flop all the way to the ground and were still beautiful.

Purple Iris After the Rain

“Purple Iris After the Rain” was the second photo I chose to enter… I am always fascinated with water drops on flowers and love to try to catch them with my camera. This is a macro shot of an Iris flower petal up Real close…  I liked how the petals in the background look paler and no photoshopping was needed.  This was the one I was unsure of after I emailed my entry, but it was too late to change my mind then 😉

I realized when looking for photo #3 that the first two were flowers with raindrops, and I kept being drawn to more of my raindrop photos, but I decided to change things up a bit…

Portulaca and Alyssum

I love how delicate and paper-like Portulaca flowers are, and this photo taken with the macro lens makes me feel happy when I look at it…  The pink is my favorite color, and I am always trying to get good photos using the tiny flowers of Alyssum as a backdrop for other flowers. This one caught some of the flowers in great, clear detail with the ones behind the Portulaca more blurred.

Getting the news yesterday about these being accepted into the exhibit was a great pick-me-up!  I so wish I could get to Houston to see the display of all the photos chosen. Each photo is printed to 11″x14″ in size and beautifully mounted for display.  The exhibit will also feature Haiku poems along with the photos.   It has been a long time since I had a quilt displayed at the show in Houston, but it is great to be able to have my photos there especially since the bulk of my creating lately has been with the camera.

I will also have a few more things at Quilt Festival which I am praying will give a jump start to my working with fabric again….  Details of that will be in a future post…  I might even get back to regular blogging again, too….
