My Moth

I wasn't going to post again until tomorrow, but checked out sue Kaufman's blog- great garden photos, and remembered my picture of this moth, an Antheraea Polyphemus.  I found this guy a while back in my germination chamber in my greenhouse. I ran the lights at night- more heat needed then, and he or she was attracted to them. The lights have been off a while, since I moved things outdoors to the gardens.

I was able to pick it up and carefully place it on a piece of paper for photos. You can check out Sue K's pic on her blog. Link below. This one had lost a lot of the powder from his wings, while flapping over my tomato plants that were not too far below the light bulbs. Sue's didn't beat itself up this bad. I don't usually "do" browns, but I think he may end up in a quilt, somehow. I wish the furry body details showed up better in photos- looked so silky soft.

Sue K has more info about this pretty cool looking creature.

OK, I think I got this right, now- amazing how fast one forgets how to add links, etc.!

About

I am a former textile artist and new pattern designer with a degree in horticulture, wishing to share my love of nature, flowers and gardens with everyone through my photos, sunprinted fabrics, and now pattern designs. Chronic Lyme Disease has caused major changes to the direction my life. I have to limit the amount of time spent digging in my gardens, and quilting has become more difficult. I discovered pattern design as a way to get art back into my life. I now use my gardens and photos to inspire designs that can be used on fabrics and print on demand items.
